How many streams is good for an independent artist?

For most independent artists a few hundred streams is a normal start, and 500 is where a release starts building real traction. The number that matters depends on genre: jazz and classical tier boundaries sit at roughly a third of pop and hip hop, so 3,000 streams means something different depending on what you make.
