Frequently asked questions

How does the optimization work?

The algorithm arranges your songs to follow a proven energy arc: build up, peak, breather, build again, big finish. It also considers BPM transitions (smooth tempo changes) and key compatibility (harmonic mixing). You can pin songs to specific positions and it optimizes around them.

What's the energy level?

Rate each song 1-10 based on how intense it feels live. 1 is a quiet acoustic ballad, 5 is a standard mid-tempo track, 10 is your highest-energy banger. Your gut feeling is usually right.

Do I need to enter the musical key?

No. Key is optional. If you add it, the tool will favor harmonically compatible transitions (using the Camelot wheel system). If you skip it, the tool still optimizes based on energy and BPM.

What's the Camelot code shown next to each key?

The Camelot wheel is a system that maps musical keys to numbers (1-12) and letters (A/B). Adjacent codes mix well together. DJs use it for harmonic mixing. The tool shows it alongside standard key names so both bands and DJs can use it.

Can I use this for DJ sets?

Yes. Enter your tracks with BPM and key. The tool optimizes for smooth BPM transitions and key compatibility, exactly what DJs need. The energy arc helps plan your build-up and peak moments.

What's the ideal setlist length?

It depends on context. Support slots are typically 30-45 minutes (7-10 songs). Headline club shows run 60-75 minutes (14-18 songs). Festivals are usually 45-60 minutes. The tool shows total duration if you enter song lengths.
